Direct photostencils

A photostencil is a photographic way of making an image on a silk screen for use with screen printing.

There are lots of ways to make photostencils. In the past i've used film-based methods. The image on the film was made by a computer, painted directly, or created by coloured adhesive vinyl. It's also possible to create photostencils by direct means.

Here is an image created using the normal photographic process using photo paper and the expose, develop, stop, wash, method. The difference with this image is that it is a Photogram. No camera was used. The object was laid directly onto the photographic paper, creating an image where the light is obscured.

I had the idea to try this method to create a direct photostencil for screenprinting.

Once the screen is dry it is ready to print.
