Can you make a full length film about a typeface and still be awake at the end? Gary Hustwit has achieved this.

I have to confess i'm a type geek from way back. I attempted to design a typeface in my first explorations of graphic design. At that point I got a first hand appreciation of the design problems involved, in this very refined art.

It's interesting to see some influencial designers and graphic artists speak about their attitute to Helvetica. To some it is the ultimate extention of modernisim, to others it's a corporate jail.

For me it's a canvas for information. It makes few demands, and will inherit the flavour of the overall concept. It's like designers tofu, plain but well formed, and goes with just about anything.
