The Mummy

The Auckland Museum is an imposing structure, looking down over the city on it's volcanic throne. What better place to watch Boris Karloff in The Mummy. It's always interesting visiting the museum at night and this film was a nice companion to the current exhibition: Egypt: Beyond the Tomb. The exhibition was well presented, but a sense of dislocation with the objects made me uneasy. The film made me laugh with it's english colonial sensibilities, formulaic plot development and Boris' mind control powers. All wrapped up with 1930's fashion and sentiment in the exotic east.
